Fungsi manajemen
Fungsi manajemen adalah elemen-elemen dasar yang akan selalu ada dan melekat di dalam proses manajemen yang akan dijadikan acuan oleh manajer dalam melaksanakan kegiatan untuk mencapai tujuan. Fungsi manajemen pertama kali diperkenalkan oleh seorang industrialis Perancis bernama Henry Fayol pada awal abad ke-20. Ketika itu, ia menyebutkan lima fungsi manajemen, yaitu merancang, mengorganisir, memerintah, mengordinasi, dan mengendalikan. Namun saat ini, kelima fungsi tersebut telah diringkas menjadi empat, yaitu:
1. Perencanaan (planning) adalah memikirkan apa yang akan dikerjakan dengan sumber yang dimiliki. Perencanaan dilakukan untuk menentukan tujuan perusahaan secara keseluruhan dan cara terbaik untuk memenuhi tujuan itu. Manajer mengevaluasi berbagai rencana alternatif sebelum mengambil tindakan dan kemudian melihat apakah rencana yang dipilih cocok dan dapat digunakan untuk memenuhi tujuan perusahaan. Perencanaan merupakan proses terpenting dari semua fungsi manajemen karena tanpa perencanaan, fungsi-fungsi lainnya tak dapat berjalan.
2. Pengorganisasian (organizing) dilakukan dengan tujuan membagi suatu kegiatan besar menjadi kegiatan-kegiatan yang lebih kecil. Pengorganisasian mempermudah manajer dalam melakukan pengawasan dan menentukan orang yang dibutuhkan untuk melaksanakan tugas-tugas yang telah dibagi-bagi tersebut. Pengorganisasian dapat dilakukan dengan cara menentukan tugas apa yang harus dikerjakan, siapa yang harus mengerjakannya, bagaimana tugas-tugas tersebut dikelompokkan, siapa yang bertanggung jawab atas tugas tersebut, pada tingkatan mana keputusan harus diambil.
3. Pengarahan (directing) adalah suatu tindakan untuk mengusahakan agar semua anggota kelompok berusaha untuk mencapai sasaran sesuai dengan perencanaan manajerial dan usaha-usaha organisasi. Jadi actuating artinya adalah menggerakkan orang-orang agar mau bekerja dengan sendirinya atau penuh kesadaran secara bersama-sama untuk mencapai tujuan yang dikehendaki secara efektif. Dalam hal ini yang dibutuhkan adalah kepemimpinan (leadership).
4. Pengevaluasian (evaluating) adalah proses pengawasan dan pengendalian performa perusahaan untuk memastikan bahwa jalannya perusahaan sesuai dengan rencana yang telah ditetapkan. Seorang manajer dituntut untuk menemukan masalah yang ada dalam operasional perusahaan, kemudian memecahkannya sebelum masalah itu menjadi semakin besar.

MANAJEMEN STRATEGIK
dalam perusahaan harus ada visi dan misi, lalu perusahaan menentukan tujuan jangka panjang, setelah itu perusahaan menggeneralisasikan, mengevaluasi, dan memilih strategi yang akan diterapkan, setelah itu perusahaan mengimplementasikasn dengan isu manajemen yang terkait, lalu mengimplementasikan dengan kegiatan pemasaran, akunting, R&D, dan ics. Dan langkah terakhir adalah perusahaan mengukur dan mengevaluasi strategi yang dipakai. (hal diatas harus diaudit dari pihak eksternal dan internal).

KOMPONEN UTAMA DI LAPTOP YANG WAJIB DIPERHATIKAN

Processor adalah otak utama dari sebuah komputer.Oleh karena itu processor adalah hal pertama yang wajib untuk diperhatikan. Processor diukur dalam GHz, misalnya 1,8 GHz. Angka ini menentukan kecepatan processor itu menangani instruksi dalam cycle per second. Selain kecepatan, jumlah core processor juga menjadi hal yang penting. Core adalah inti dari processor. Jadi bila processor yang anda punya memiliki dua core, maka secara teori itu sama dengan seperti menggunakan dua buah processor dalam satu komputer.
::MEMORY
Sebaiknya dalam memilih laptop atau notebook setidaknya memiliki memory berkapasitas 1 GB. Karena jika sistem mengalami kekurangan memory, ia akan memanfaatkan harddisk sebagai pengganti memory. Dan buruknya itu dapat mempengaruhi kinerja dari komputer tersebut. Intinya semakin banyak memory yang dimiliki, maka semakin baik.
::HARDDISK
Untuk saat ini ada dua macam penyimpanan yaitu, harddisk dan SSD (Solid State Drive). SSD lebih unggul dalam hal performanya, karena SSD lebih cepat, sunyi, dan konsumsi dayanya lebih rendah daripada harddisk yang sering kita pakai. Akan tetapi SSd masih sangat mahal. Maka dari itu, laptop yang ada sekarang ini umumnya masih menggunakan harddisk. Carilah harddisk yang berkapasitas besar. Tapi jika tidak besar pun tidak akan menjadi masalah, karena banyak harddisk portabel berkapasitas besar yang bisa dijadikan tempat penyimpanan cadangan. Selain itu harddisk dapat diupgrade di kemudian hari.

Ada dua macam video card yaitu, integrated dan dedicated. Video card integrated adalah video card yang memory-nya memanfaatkan memory utama (RAM). Sedangkan video card dedicated menggunakan memory sendiri, maka performa dedicated lebih bagus. dedicated sangat cocok untuk penggila game.

Kuliah Jurusan Facebook
Jika Anda berfikir main Facebook hanyalah iseng semata, jangan salah. Kenapa? Karena rupanya hal ini dianggap sebagai sesuatu yang serius oleh Universitas Birmingham City di Inggris, sampai-sampai dibuatkan sebuah jurusan khusus yang mempelajari aktivitas ber-social networking tersebut.
Di jurusan tersebut, mahasiswanya akan mempelajari cara memebuat blog, membuat podcast secara online, dan bagaimana caranya memanfaatkan social networking sebagai sarana untuk berkomunikasi dan marketing.
Menurut Jon Hickman, salah satu pengurus di Universitas tersebut, jurusan yang meminta biaya 4.400 poundsterling setahun itu, dikabarkan banyak peminatnya. Alasannya adalah untuk masuk kejurusan itu tidak perlu menjadi ahli komputer atau paham seluk beluk komputer.
Namun rupanya tidak sedikit juga yang menganggap sinis. Karena buat apa kuliah yang pelajarannya bisa dipelajari sendiri dengan mudah, dan apakah lulusannya siap jika suatu saat ditanya, "Kuliah jurusan apa?" jawabnya, "Saya kuliah jurusan Facebook".

Tema : Keburukan Struktur Organisasi garis/staff dan fungsional pada suatu institusi pendidikan.
Judul : konflik Lini dan staff
Konflik Lini dan staff adalah konflik yang terjadi antara pimpinan unit dengan staffnya terutama staff yang berhubungan dengan wewenang kerja.
Faktor-faktor yang dapat menimbulkan berbagai konflik diantara orang-orang lini dan staff sebagai berikut :
1. perbedaan umur dan pendidikan.
orang-orang staff biasanya berumur lebih muda dan berpendidikan lebih daripada orang-orang staff, hal ini menyebabkan terjadinya "generation gap " lini.
2. perbedaan tugas.
Orang lini lebih teknis dan generalis, sedangkan orang staff lebih spesialis, sehingga menimbulkan :
a. Karena staff sangat spesialis, mungkin menggunakan istilah-istilah dan bahasa yang tidak dapat dipahami oleh orang lini.
b. Orang lini mungkin merasa bahwa staff spesialis tidak sepenuhnya mengerti masalah-masalah lini dan menganggap mereka tidak dapat mengerjakannya.
3. perbedaan sikap.
a. orang staff cenderung bersikap memperluas wewenangnya dan memberikan perintah-perintah kepada orang lini untuk membuktikan keeksistensiannya.
b. orang staff cenderung merasa yang paling berjasa untuk gagasan-gagasan yang diimplementasikan oleh orang lini, dan sebaliknya orang lini mungkin tidak menghargai peranan orang staff dalam membantu memecahkan masalah yang ada.
c. orang staff selalu merasa dibawah perintah orang lini, sedangkan dilain pihak orang lini selalu curiga bahwa orang staff ingin memeperluas kekuasaannya.
4. Perbedaan posisi.
Manajemen puncak mungkin tidak mengkomunikasikan secara jelas luasnya wewenang staff dalam hubungannya dengan lini. Padahal orang departemen staff ditempatkan relatif pada posisi tinggi dekat manajemen puncak. Departemen lini dengan tingkatan lebih rendah cenderung tidak suka dengan hal tersebut.

a. Karena staff sangat spesialis, mungkin menggunakan istilah-istilah dan bahasa yang tidak dapat dipahami oleh orang lini.
b. Orang lini mungkin merasa bahwa staff spesialis tidak sepenuhnya mengerti masalah-masalah lini dan menganggap mereka tidak dapat mengerjakannya.
3. perbedaan sikap.
a. orang staff cenderung bersikap memperluas wewenangnya dan memberikan perintah-perintah kepada orang lini untuk membuktikan keeksistensiannya.
b. orang staff cenderung merasa yang paling berjasa untuk gagasan-gagasan yang diimplementasikan oleh orang lini, dan sebaliknya orang lini mungkin tidak menghargai peranan orang staff dalam membantu memecahkan masalah yang ada.
c. orang staff selalu merasa dibawah perintah orang lini, sedangkan dilain pihak orang lini selalu curiga bahwa orang staff ingin memeperluas kekuasaannya.
4. Perbedaan posisi.
Manajemen puncak mungkin tidak mengkomunikasikan secara jelas luasnya wewenang staff dalam hubungannya dengan lini. Padahal orang departemen staff ditempatkan relatif pada posisi tinggi dekat manajemen puncak. Departemen lini dengan tingkatan lebih rendah cenderung tidak suka dengan hal tersebut.

Dalam suatu institusi pendidikan sering terjadi berbagai macam konflik. Atau merupakan keburukan dari struktur organisasi tersebut. Dalam hal ini, akan diambil salah satu contoh yaitu konflik fungsional. konflik fungsional adalah konflik yang terjadi antar berbagai departemen atau bagian fungsional yang ada pada organisasi tersebut.
Sebagai contoh adalah konflik yang terjadi antara bagian staff akademik dengan bagian staff pengajar. konflik tersebut bisa terjadi karena perberdaan cara pandang para anggota bagian tersebut. Staff akademik hanya mengatur penjadwalan pengajar sesuai dengan mata kuliahnya. Tanpa menghiraukan berapa lama pengajar tersebut mengajar dalam satu hari. Sedangkan staff pengajar hanya dapat menerima jadwal yang sudah dibuat oleh staff akademik. Mungkin sebagian pengajar mengeluh karena begitu padatnya jadwal yang telah dibuat. Maka staff pengajar melakukan komplen kepada staff akademik. Hal ini menyebakan staff akademik harus bekerja dua kali untuk mengatur ulang jadwal yang telah dibuat.
